Cold storage facilities
captured properly.
Freezer envelopes, refrigeration plant, and racking 3D scanned at temperature.
Why this building type gets scanned
Cold storage combines tight envelope tolerances with congested refrigeration plant. We 3D scan freezer and cooler space, ammonia rooms, penthouse plant, and dock areas so expansion or refrigeration upgrades start from point cloud measured geometry.
- Insulated metal panel (IMP) envelopes, vapor barriers, and thermally broken slabs require measured 3D geometry rather than design-intent drawings so replacement panels, high-speed freezer doors, and dock seals fit without thermal leaks.
- Ammonia and CO2 mechanical refrigeration rooms are densely piped and access-restricted; high-density terrestrial laser scanning documents compressors, vessels, valve stations, and overhead condensers at 2 to 3 mm station accuracy.
- High-bay pallet racking, AS/RS crane retrofits, and cold-chain automation depend on verified clear height under evaporator coils, column plumbness, and ASTM E1155 slab flatness across the freezer floor.
- Combining interior LiDAR with FAA Part 107 rooftop photogrammetry places the freezer interior, penthouse refrigeration plant, condenser dunnage steel, and truck court into one coordinate-locked E57, RCP, DWG, and Revit (.rvt) dataset.
How a typical project runs
We walk the site or review drawings and photos, agree the areas and density, and set control. Field work is scheduled around your operations — nights, weekends, or planned outage windows where required. After registration and QA, the deliverable set is produced and reviewed with your team so the files are usable on day one. The full workflow is on our process page.
The deliverable set follows from the questions above. That means laser capture at temperature, CAD as-built plans of the cold envelope and racking, and a roof photogrammetry and condenser deck survey from above.
- Freezer and cooler space
- Refrigeration / ammonia plant rooms
- Condenser decks and penthouses
- Racking and clear height
- Dock and staging areas
- Roof and envelope
- Point cloud captured at temperature
- As-built plans and sections
- Refrigeration room BIM model
- Roof ortho and takeoff
Where cold storage capture comes up
Cold buildings cluster near the food distribution corridors, and the survey has to happen at temperature — which is why nobody wants to do it twice.
The New York side of the service area adds condenser deck and roof capture in The Bronx and freezer envelope capture in Hamburg. In New Jersey that covers cold store clear-height surveys in North Bergen and condenser deck and roof capture in Vineland.
