Almost every industrial project we run is captured while the facility keeps operating. Scanners are tripod-mounted and quiet, setups take a few minutes each, and the crew moves along a planned route rather than occupying an area for hours.
A shutdown is only proposed when the geometry genuinely requires it — inside a vessel, in an energized enclosure, or where a permit system makes access impossible while the unit runs. When that is the case we say so during scoping, not on day two of field work.
Planning for access, not just geometry
The schedule is usually driven by access rules rather than by scanning speed. Site-specific safety training, badging lead time, escort availability, hot work permits, and confined space rules all shape the plan.
- Escorted routes planned in advance so the crew never waits for an available escort
- Night, weekend, and holiday capture for occupied buildings
- Short, repeatable windows during changeovers or planned maintenance
- Pre-outage capture so turnaround scope is fixed before the unit comes down
- Explicit documentation of any area that could not be reached
Turnaround and shutdown planning
The highest-value scan on a process site is usually the one taken before the turnaround, not during it. With the unit captured while running, tie-in points can be measured, spools fabricated off site, scaffolding planned, and rigging paths checked — so the critical path during the outage is installation rather than discovery.
For plants with recurring outages, a maintained point cloud pays back across cycles. Rescan the areas that changed instead of re-surveying the whole unit.
What we need from your side
A site contact who can arrange access, a clear statement of restricted areas, and an honest picture of the safety requirements. Everything else — control, scan planning, registration, QA — is ours to manage.
