Field scanning technicians run terrestrial and mobile capture on industrial and institutional sites, which means competence with scan planning, control, and site safety as much as with the instrument.
BIM and CAD modelers turn registered point clouds into Revit models and drawing sets, working to a documented modeling matrix rather than to taste.
Drone pilots hold FAA Part 107 certification and handle airspace authorisation, ground control, and photogrammetric processing.
Project coordinators keep access, escorts, permits, and schedules moving, which on industrial sites is genuinely harder than the scanning.
What the work is actually like
Field work happens where the buildings are: live plants, occupied hospitals, warehouses at night, roofs, and the occasional freezing January switchyard. Early starts and night shifts are part of the job, not an exception.
Office work is detail-heavy and quality-driven. Registration residuals and modeling accuracy are checked, and we would rather rescan than deliver something we cannot defend.
What we look for
Attention to detail, comfort on industrial sites, and the judgement to say when something is outside tolerance rather than hoping nobody checks.
Prior surveying, construction, or AEC experience helps; so does Revit, AutoCAD, ReCap, Cyclone, or Civil 3D. Neither is a hard requirement for someone who clearly learns fast.
